Autumn is my favourite season for photo shoots (with Spring being a very close second!) I wanted to write about why I love shooting at this time of year to hopefully inspire you to get out and photograph your own children before all of the leaves have fallen from the trees and been swept away!
So here are the 4 main reasons I love photographing children in the autumn…
1. The first reasons has to be the beautiful colour that we get at this time of year. All of the oranges, yellows and reds are just a joy to photograph and little people look amazing in front of them like this little lady below.
2. The next reason is that the light at this time of year is great, and so much easier to work with than in the summer. The worst kind of light to shoot in is overhead sun (think midday on a sunny July day), but we are lucky in this country as a lot of the year the sun is low in the sky for most of the day. So we don’t have to be shooting at 7am to get lovely light! The best way of shooting with this light is to shoot with the sun in front of you (and behind the person you are photographing) and not behind you (which probably goes against everything you were probably taught when you were younger!) Have a play around with it and see what results you get. I can bet they will be better than your children squinting into the sun!
3. Another reason is because who needs toys when you have a sea of leaves to play buy amoxil online cheap with…kids just love to have fun in the leaves. It’s so much easier to get your children out for a photo shoot when you can tell them that they are going to have a play with some leaves and you just happen to be taking some photos of them! One way to guarantee some cheeky expressions is to say they are allowed to throw some leaves at you….
Or just get them to throw them on themselves!
And getting your baby or child to lie down in the leaves makes a wonderful backdrop.
4. My fourth and final reasons for loving the autumn season has got to be the lovely winter clothes that we can dress our children in! I wrote a post with tips on what to wear for your autumn photo shoot which may give you a few ideas.
And going back to the light, these photos were taken at around midday, a time I would normally avoid shooting in like the plague during the summer! But with the sun being so low in the sky in the autumn, you can shoot any time of the day and get lovely results.
I always find children are rather excited at this time of year; there is Halloween, then fireworks night, then the huge excitement of Christmas in the not-so-distant future. So why not bottle that excitement and take your camera out on your next trip out with your children in the autumn leaves? I hope I’ve inspired you a little to pick up your camera and get snapping!
